Updates on OPSEU Strike

MAY 14, 2026
As of Friday, May 8, 2026, Surrey Place has received official notification from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development that OPSEU (the Ontario Public Service Employees Union), which represents many Surrey Place staff, is in a legal strike position as of May 25th.

Surrey Place respects the bargaining process and remains committed to working towards a resolution.

Our top priority is to continue to meet the needs of clients and families. In case of a potential strike, contingency plans are in place to support clients through the significant disruption.

Potential Impact to Autism Services

At Surrey Place, our priority remains the consistency and quality of the behavioural services provided to your child. At the chance of a potential strike, and if services are disrupted, we will implement measures to ensure families remains supported during this period.
Regular Clinical Check-ins:
To maintain clinical continuity during this time, supervisors will reach out to clients and families for regular check-ins. During these calls, our supervisors may address:
  • Service Coordination: Discussing how we can support or integrate with other services your family may be accessing, such as school day adjustments, after-school programs, or other community resources.
  • Professional Collaboration: Assisting with the coordination of other professional services to maintain a unified approach to your child's care.
  • Clinical Guidance: Providing strategies/resources to maintain skills and addressing any concerns that arise during this transition which could include writing OAP letters for purchase of materials or technology to generalize skills to home.

Service Credits and Billing

We understand the impact that service interruptions might have on your planning. Fees for any cancelled service sessions will be credited to clients and families’ account.

What Happens Next

Right now, all services are operating as usual.

In the case of a potential strike, we will contact clients and families by email or phone if specific services are affected.
