What is FASD?

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) describes the range of physical, intellectual, and neurobehavioral effects that can occur when a fetus is exposed to alcohol before birth. It is a lifelong condition, and the severity and combination of symptoms vary by person.

FASD Diagnostic Services

This diagnostic service is for adults, children, and youth who want to confirm an FASD diagnosis and get help with support planning. By providing a proper diagnosis, we can increase each person’s ability to access services and funding, and make sure they don’t need to navigate the system alone.

As a client, you’ll receive:

  • An FASD diagnostic assessment
  • Detailed care recommendations
  • Post-diagnosis education

FASD Children & Youth Service Coordination

Navigating meetings, referrals, and follow-ups for young people with FASD can be overwhelming. We welcome children and youth with FASD (ages 0-18) and their caregivers to ease the pressure by collaborating with our team of experts.

Our team of FASD specialists can develop a support plan, coordinate services and assist with the transition to adult services. With us by your family’s side, you’ll know you’re accessing the right care at the right time.

What are the eligibility requirements?

This service is for:

  • Children and youth ages 0-18
  • Or young adults up to age 21 who remain in school
  • Those who currently live in Toronto
  • Those who are diagnosed with or suspected of having FASD
  • Those who have a referral from a primary care provider

This service is for:

  • Adults aged 18 and over who suspect FASD
  • Children and youth ages 6-18 with confirmed prenatal alcohol exposure*

Clients must be in the Toronto Region. A referral from your primary care provider is also required.

  • If it isn’t possible to confirm prenatal alcohol exposure, we can explore other options. We may conduct facial analysis combined with social history to support a diagnosis.

When those with FASD better understand their needs, they can access tailored care that opens new possibilities throughout their lives. A diagnosis of FASD can increase a person’s ability to access specialized medical support, services and funding. It can also maximize skill potential by identifying and reducing obstacles and risks they may face.
